About

Women in engineering (WIE) SB Affinity group Leuven aims to enhance diversity (gender-diversity and other) and representation in the engineering field. And to create an environment where we can connect and engage in open conversations about these topics. We envision a vibrant community of women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.

Team

Sari Kerckhove – Chair

Sari obtained a M.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Ghent University, Belgium in 2019 and an additional M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech, USA in 2020. Since 2021, she started a joint Ph.D. with the Flemish institute for technological research (VITO) and KU Leuven’s Electrical Engineering department with a focus on optimal asset use of electricity distribution grids specifically through the means of network reconfiguration.

Faedra Webers – Vice-Chair

Faedra obtained a M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from KU Leuven in 2020 and an additional M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven in 2022.

Since November 2022, she started a PhD at KU Leuven’s Electrical Engineering department where she is part of the research group MICAS. The topic of her PhD is cryogenic RF design.

Xiaoxiao Liu – Secretary

Xiaoxiao Liu received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering and its automation and the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from North China Electric Power University, Beijing, China, in 2018 and 2021. She is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering under a joint PhD program with KU Leuven and the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests include the control and protection of HVDC systems.She has been working in the PES Chapter of IEEE Student Branch Leuven as a volunteer for a year and now is the secretary of the WIE Affinity Group of IEEE Student Branch Leuven.

Ziqing Guo – Media

Ziqing Guo obtained a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China in 2022. Currently, she is a second year PhD student at KU Leuven and EnergyVille. She is focusing on combining Machine Learning and Finite Element Method for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of electromagnetic devices.

Hanwei Li – Treasurer

Hanwei obtained a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China in 2020. Currently, she is a first-year MSCA doctoral candidate at KU Leuven and EnergyVille with a focus on the protection scheme of multi-vendor HVDC cable systems.
