The IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest (SPC) is a traditional, over forty five years existing student, academic and technical activity in Region 8. The goal of the Student Paper Contest is to offer students (master students and first year PhD's) the possibility to improve their writing and verbal skills by competing with others at an international conference.
IEEE Student Paper Contest Leuven
The Student Branch Leuven can send 2 papers to the IEEE Student Paper Contest of Region 8 (Europe, Africa and the Middle-East). In order to decide which papers we will send, the Student Branch is organizing a local Student Paper Contest, of which the deadline is November 5, 2015. In this paper contest you have to present unpublished work, on which you performed research during your engineering education. A summary of your master thesis or an internship, for example, could be well suited.
An independent review committee will decide on the winning papers. The three winners of this contest will receive a prize of respectively 200€, 100€ and 50€.
IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest
The first two winners of the Leuven contest will thereafter be subscribed to the IEEE Student Paper Contest that is organized by Region 8 (Europe, Africa and the Middle-East). Hereafter, an international jury will select the best papers for oral finals. As a finalist, you get the chance to defend your work at an international conference, which is a very valuable experience. In the meanwhile, IEEE is paying for your travelling and accommodation expenses. If you win the finals, you can win an additional prize of 800$, 500$ and 200$. In the meanwhile, the papers of the finalists are published officially in the conference proceedings and through IEEE Xplore.
Especially for those who are thinking to start working on a PhD, this is the ideal occasion to publish a paper, but also for master students this could be a chance to publish the results of your internship and to attend an international conference. And of course, winning such a prize is also very nice on your resumé.
More information and the participation conditions (being an IEEE member,...) can be found in the pdf-documents below. Are you interested to take part in this contest? Just check the contest rules and submit your paper (pdf) of maximum 6 pages according to IEEE format using the form below.
