The first 'Soirée Pratique' of this semester is on the popular and easy to program Arduino micro-controller.

We'll provide the Arduino's and equipment, you bring creativity and your laptop if you've one! We'll start with a short introduction and guide you through the setup.
At the end we'll give a small reception which gives you the oportunity to get to know us better and ask questions on further SP.

More than dropping: The great escape

Register quickly below! Places are limited to 24 participants, a minimum of 16 participants is required in order to let the event take place.

What is a dropping?

A standard dropping is a 'game' in which participants are 'blindfolded' and brought to a place from which they have to reach a certain point of return, using a map, compass, (but no GPS)...

Technical seminar on Medium Voltage Cables and Cable Joints

On Tuesday, the 29th of October (19h-21h), the IEEE student branch Leuven together with one of their gold sponsors, Nexans, is organising a technical seminar on "Medium voltage cables and cable joints". In this seminar, first an introduction to the goals and application of current MV equipment will be presented. Next, a demonstration of the construction of different cable joints and connectors is given. Afterwards, a reception is provided by the IEEE student branch. This siminar is aimed at both master students as people from the industry who are interested in MV technology.

Prof Gaunt has over 35 years of experience with equipment manufacturers and electricity utilities and, since 2000, in teaching and research at the University of Cape Town. His interests in power delivery planning and design have led to over 150 publications.

His public lecture explores how geomagnetic storms cause serious problems for electricity systems on Earth. The talk is entitled:

"Geomagnetically Induced Currents in the Southern African Electricity Transmission Network"

BEST Summer Course on Energy (8-19 July 2013)

Dear IEEE Actives and IEEE Members,

Next week, the Summer Course of BEST Leuven (Board of European Students of Technology) will start. This year's topic again will be on Energy in cooperation with Electa.

The Summer Course will take place between the 8th and 19th of July. 22 technology students from all over Europe will come to Leuven to learn more on several Energy topics. Since IEEE Leuven supports this Summer Course, it is possible for IEEE-members to follow the lectures.
