Although convinced of our advice for effective communication, many people feel they will not be allowed to use it in practice. Beside “nobody else does it in this way”, the classic assertions to justify resistance to change include “it is not compatible with our template” and “my group leader won’t let me do so”. While such utterances are sometimes no more than excuses for laziness or low self-confidence, the barriers are often real.

Mark Wednesday November 27th 2013 between 12h30 and 17h30 in your agenda: IEEE Student Branch Leuven organizes the eighth edition of the job fair with spin-offs & small high-tech companies. The companies that are present at this job fair are mostly small and not well known with the general public, so this is your change of exploring your possibilities with smaller but immensely interesting companies!
Last week, a technical seminar on on medium voltage cables and cable joints was organized by student branch sponsor Nexans. During the seminar, demonstrations were given of how to make a joint and connectors for a medium voltage cable. The photos of this event can be found in our facebook group here.
The IEEE student branch Leuven is happy to announce the second session of the Soirée Pratique of the academic year 2013-2014. We are going to start to build a robot platform in the first 'Build Your Own Robot' session, on Monday October 21 at 19h30 in 02.58. We'll have a look at the power of the robot: motors and how to control them. For this session, you will need an Arduino board (see order list) and a laptop.
On Thursday, the 24th of October (18h-20h),
The IEEE and SPIE OSA student branch Leuven are organising a technical seminar on "Adaptive optics and free electron lasers for laser weapons"
by Professor Emile Schweicher from the Belgian Royal Militarty School.
In this seminar,
The first part will cover the theory of adaptive optics, chemical lasers and chemical oxygen iodine lasers and air borne lasers.
Military and space observation applications will be presented along the seminar.
The first 'Soirée Pratique' of this semester is on the popular and easy to program Arduino micro-controller.
We'll provide the Arduino's and equipment, you bring creativity and your laptop if you've one! We'll start with a short introduction and guide you through the setup. At the end we'll give a small reception which gives you the oportunity to get to know us better and ask questions on further SP.
Please register below and indicate whether you'll bring a laptop.
On Tuesday, the 29th of October (19h-21h), the IEEE student branch Leuven together with one of their gold sponsors, Nexans, is organising a technical seminar on "Medium voltage cables and cable joints". In this seminar, first an introduction to the goals and application of current MV equipment will be presented. Next, a demonstration of the construction of different cable joints and connectors is given. Afterwards, a reception is provided by the IEEE student branch. This siminar is aimed at both master students as people from the industry who are interested in MV technology.
