Bitcoins: failed experiment or currency of the future?

The event will start at 18:30 until 20:00, with a reception afterwards.

19:00: Why bitcoin matters - Ren Zhang, COSIC, KU Leuven, Belgium

To answer the question why Bitcoin matters, I will first go through the story of several predecessors of Bitcoin and explain why they did not see wide adoption. Then I will briefly introduce the technology behind Bitcoin and explain to the audience why both academia and the industry are so enthusiastic about the technology. At last I will provide some examples of its usage and talk about the current limitation and obstacles.
