IEEE Student Paper Contest Leuven
The Student Branch Leuven can send 2 papers to the IEEE Student Paper Contest of Region 8 (Europe, Africa and the Middle-East). In order to decide which papers we will send, the Student Branch is organizing a local Student Paper Contest, of which the deadline is November 6, 2015. In this paper contest you have to present unpublished work, on which you performed research during your engineering education. A summary of your master thesis or an internship, for example, could be well suited.
An independent review committee will decide if the papers are suitable for prizes and the order of the winning papers. The winners of this contest will receive a prize of respectively 100€, 50€ and 25€. The prizes will be awarded at the IEEE Job Fair on Wednesday 2 December.
IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest
The first two winners of the Leuven contest will thereafter be subscribed to the IEEE Student Paper Contest that is organized by Region 8 (Europe, Africa and the Middle-East). If your paper is selected, you get the chance to defend your work at an international conference (this year MELECON at Cyprus). IEEE is paying for your travelling and accommodation expenses. Additional prizes of 800$, 500$ and 200$ can be won at the R8 contest. The best papers are published officially in the conference proceedings and through IEEE Xplore.
Especially for those who are thinking to start working on a PhD, this is the ideal occasion to publish a paper, but also for master students this could be a chance to publish the results of your internship and to attend an international conference. And of course, winning such a prize is also very nice on your resumé.
More information and the participation conditions (being an IEEE member,...) can be found in the pdf-documents below. Are you interested to take part in this contest? Just check the contest rules and submit your paper (pdf) of maximum 6 pages according to IEEE format using the form below. Send your paper to [email protected] by November 6, 2015. This paper has to be written in English according to the guidelines of the contest rules. Also mention your promoter and daily supervisor of your thesis.
If you are not sure whether your thesis is appropriate you can always ask your promoter/daily supervisor (with respect to the contents) or us (IEEE Student Branch for all IEEE matters and questions with respect to the contest).
The winning papers from the Student Paper Contest Leuven have made it many times to the finals during the last decade! In 2013, Maarten won the first prize in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2010, Hari defended his paper at the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest finals in Malta. In 2009, Jef won the third prize in St.-Petersburg. In 2008, Geert and William were both in the Region 8 final on Corsica where they received the first and second place respectively. In 2007, Wilm and Jan defended their papers in Warsaw and they ended up first and third, respectively. In 2006, Cedric went to Malaga and in 2005 Elke end Pieter defended their paper in Belgrado, where they won the second prize. So there is a high probability that someone from Leuven will get through to the finals!
