  • Soirée Pratique Sumo robot competition

    Mar
    14
    Date:
    Wednesday, April 13, 2016 - 20:00

On Wednesday April 13th at the Machinezaal of the Thermotechnical institute, we'll have our annual sumo-robot competition. Create your own autonomous sumo-robot and join the competition! In this competition your robot has to find an opponent and push him out of the sumo-field (a black circular field with white rim).

You first play against all opponents of your group. The best robots go to the next stage of the competition, with semi-finals and finals. There are nice prizes for the three best robots and the most original robot!

  • Sumo robot: advanced programming with Arduino

    Mar
    03
    Date:
    Monday, March 7, 2016 - 19:30

    Location: ESAT 02.58

During the past sessions you have assembled your very own sumo-robot.
In this next session you are going to program it!

We'll give a short presentation on programming strategies and will provide a basic working Arduino tempate from which you can start building your own advanced control strategy.

We'll also provide a sumo field to test your robot.

Do you wish to participate in the competition and are starting from scratch?
No problem, we'll help you out with a standard sumo robot frame + motors/sensors.

  • Soirée Pratique 2015: Frame

    Feb
    11
    Date:
    Monday, February 22, 2016 - 19:30

Last semester we got the sensors and motors of our sumo robot operational, so now it is time to create the frame or "skeleton" of our robot.

In this session, we will provide CAD files for creating your own standard frame which you can use to build your own customized frame. We will use the lasercutters at FabLab to create all the necessary components and afterwards assemble the parts.

  • Soiree Technique: Autonomous Vehicles (Tuesday 23 Feb. 19h30, Aud. A ESAT)

    Feb
    09
    Date:
    Tuesday, February 9, 2016 - 13:30

The idea of autonomous vehicles becomes less and less a vision for the distant future. Transportation is becoming less dependent on human input, as today’s cars already have self-parking features and autonomous braking systems. However, to pave the road for self-driving cars, several challenges still need to be overcome in the domain of computer vision, control systems, data and privacy issues and legal boundaries. In this seminar, the current state and future needs for autonomous vehicles are discussed by three presenters:
o Prof. Luc van Gool: associated with PSI/Visics at ESAT,KU Leuven and Computer Vision Laboratory of ETHZ
o Filip Geuens, CEO of Xenomatix
    o Harold Perik, Flanders MAKE
