Last semester we got the sensors and motors of our sumo robot operational, so now it is time to create the frame or "skeleton" of our robot.
In this session, we will provide CAD files for creating your own standard frame which you can use to build your own customized frame. We will use the lasercutters at FabLab to create all the necessary components and afterwards assemble the parts.
The idea of autonomous vehicles becomes less and less a vision for the distant future. Transportation is becoming less dependent on human input, as today’s cars already have self-parking features and autonomous braking systems. However, to pave the road for self-driving cars, several challenges still need to be overcome in the domain of computer vision, control systems, data and privacy issues and legal boundaries. In this seminar, the current state and future needs for autonomous vehicles are discussed by three presenters:
o Prof. Luc van Gool: associated with PSI/Visics at ESAT,KU Leuven and Computer Vision Laboratory of ETHZ
o Filip Geuens, CEO of Xenomatix
o Harold Perik, Flanders MAKE
In this third session we will add some sensors to the sumo robot in order to collect information from its environment. The available sensors are ultrasonic sensors, infrared distance sensors, line detection sensors (black/white).
On Wednesday 28/10, we are going to participate in a friendly Paintball competition against our colleagues from SPIE ( http://www.spiekul.be/ ). It doesnt matter if you're a beginner or paintball legend, join us against SPIE and show them who's boss! This is also the perfect training moment for the ESAT vs Mech paintball battle of next semester.
Around 19.30 we're leaving in Leuven, and expect to play from 20.00 to 22.00 at the indoor paintball field in Merchtem (a very nice and varied field).
Mark Wednesday December 2 2015 between 12h30 and 17h30 in your agenda: IEEE Student Branch Leuven organizes the tenth edition of the job fair with spin-offs & high-tech companies. The companies that are present at this job fair are mostly not well known with the general public, so this is your chance of exploring your possibilities with more obscure but immensely interesting companies!
